He’s Home | Celebrating Adoption Session | Maggie McDonald Photography

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

This family met me with all smiles.  Their little man, adopted from China about a month ago, fit into their family just perfectly.   I absolutely loved being able to witness their family love and the tenderness his sisters had toward him was incredibly touching.

I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the organization, Celebrating Adoption.  I have met incredible families and children through C.A. and just treasure sessions that I am able to photograph.    Thank you, W Family, for choosing me to capture your love.  It was an honor!

Hope you have a lovely day!    ~mm

Gorgeous,     G O R G E O U S      family !!!

I feel incredibly fortunate when I am contacted by a family to photograph them for an organization called Celebrating Adoption.   Celebrating Adoption sessions are always great fun and more rewarding than I can even explain.   I always get teary when I see the “complete” family  (so, so much love) and I just love hearing the stories of each child and family.

Check            out             this          SIBLING             SQUEEEEEEEEEZE!           Love it!!!

When I heard from the E family mid-July, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph them.   This family had a Celebrating Adoption session for their son, when he arrived home, and now, this session was to celebrate the adoption of their adorable, SWEET, cutie-pie youngest daughter, who came home in January.

We met up on a cooler-than-usual sunny morning and they all popped out of the car with big smiles, ready to have some fun.  We went on a mini nature walk, ran, explored, did a bunch of smiling and laughing, and chatted about lots of kid-related things!

So, here she is, Little A. I loved her sweet demeanor…she was an observer for quite some time, and then slowly but surely, she came out of her shell.  Her more outgoing siblings definitely helped her along…      And oh, did I mention her smile….absolutely stunning!

Her older sister (have you SEEN more beautiful hair?) was so smiley and full of personality — she glowed in that golden sun! I cracked up when we discussed having lollipops at the end of the session — she was SO excited and talked and talked about how much she LOVED candy! ;)

Their athletic older brother was kind-hearted, SO well-mannered, and F U N !

The girlies REALLY look up to him!

Ridiculously      cute.           Incredibly       happy.

Thank you SO very much, E Family, for letting me be a small part in celebrating your adoption of sweet Miss A.  It was such a pleasure to work with you and meet all of your children!

Hope you have one lovely day.  :)

Just wrapping up this super fun session. :)

I am going to get a little sappy here and say that I feel so fortunate that I’m able to capture candid moments like these.

Look at how little C is looking at her dad as he spins her round and round at the park — adorable grins like that don’t just come from saying “cheese.” And the little dimpled darling (oh how mom said she wanted those captured!) smiling away and just having a grand ol’ time as mom pushes her on the swing. And lastly, some guy time as father and son see who can go higher, higher, HIGHER, on the swing (and breaking out in giggles during the attempt). Families just don’t get pictures often enough — I’m guilty of the same thing — but what a memory.

When I got my family pictures done this season, I was in awe of what I saw. Things I always do with my kiddos (those candid moments where I nuzzle, squeeze, smooch, and laugh with them) are now recorded. We have images of our love in full force, which is such a gift.

I want all of my clients out there to know that I *LOVE* that I’m part of your history — capturing moments — and that I take it incredibly seriously.

Now to change the tune a little…
I have one more photo shoot scheduled for December and then some family fun time for me. :) My kids need it, hubby needs it, & I absolutely need it. January is almost booked, too! Only two photo shoots available — contact me if you’re interested!

Have one super day. We’re off to get a pic with Santa, to do some shopping AND spend some time with Mimi. Woo hooo! ~m

OH…and my sis will be out here again. Any funkTASTIC photo shoot ideas for us? We like different, you know! :) IF, your idea is chosen (OR you can send me a fab location to try out if you don’t have an idea, per se) THEN I’ll send you a $10 Starbucks gift card!!! Yesssss….. You can comment or send me an email at by the end of the day to be eligible for a DELISH gift card. I KNOW it’s cold out there for most of you, so this is a necessity! :)

:::Check out this joy!!! :) I love how her eyes are closed as she giggles and giggles when her big brother pushes her.:::

Six months ago, the D family was forever changed when little Selina came home with them from Ghana. I don’t even know where to begin with their incredible story, so I’ll point you to [their family blog] so you can read about their adoption experience. Not only did this family bring Selina home, but they are constantly reaching out to help other children back in Africa. Reading Jen’s blog has truly been eye-opening and I hope you’ll check it out.

I feel so fortunate that I was asked to capture their love through a Celebrating Adoption session, and that’s exactly what we did!!! Soooo much love! :)

Stay tuned for another sneak peek in the next week of this awesome fam — there are so many images that I love!!!

Have a super day. ~m

I know mom has been waiting for a couple more sneak peeks from her “Celebrating Adoption” family session…

[I love how J is beaming and looking a his dad for reassurance, while mom and little E are having a cute a little moment. How ADORABLE are they!?!]

[A little game of peek-a-boo is always a big hit!]

I had a photo session with one AMAZING family today for Celebrating Adoption. Look at how the little guy’s hand is in mom’s hair! :)

After months and months of only knowing their son through pictures and videos, the B family traveled to Guatemala two weeks ago to officially adopt this cutie.  He smiled, and smiled, and did some more smiling.  :)

His big sister was equally adorable and full of typical four-year-old energy.  I wouldn’t have it any other way! This hat pic is for you, H! :)

Are they perfect or what??? :) Look at little J smiling all over the place!

It was such an honor to photography this family.  I just loved their connection — everyone was just oozing love and happiness. Can’t wait to show you guys the rest (stay tuned for another sneak peek in a week or so)!  Have a wonderful weekend.  ~m

SOOO many more from this session with cute baby J. I’ve been super busy with sessions, editing, & being a mom…LoTS to share from recent sessions, just not enough time in the day to narrow down all my choices. :)

I just ordered some “props” for newborn sessions, so be on the lookout for some interesting items appearing on the blog!

I am totally booked for the holiday season (wooo hooo!)! IF you’re looking to get holiday pictures taken, please email me and I’ll put you on a wait list for a session. There are always openings for newborns, however. I always allow extra time for the little cuties.

Celebrating Adoption sessions are booked for November and December. If you’d like to schedule one for January let’s chat!

If you’re looking for a session for 2009, give me a jingle! I’m currently booking sessions for the new year (AND selling gift certificates for the new year, too!). Please send me an email at and we’ll get you in OR get a gift certificate to you in the mail! What an awesome gift for someone special.

I have some exciting news to share soon about an awesome opportunity in November! If you’re in the Phoenix area, keep November 6th open (4-8pm) for something VERY special.

Have a super rest of your weekend. ~Maggie

:::celebrating adoption:::

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

I am SO excited to share that I was accepted to be a part of a national organization called “Celebrating Adoption.”   Giving back to my community is incredibly important to me — Celebrating Adoption connects photographers with families that have opened their hearts and homes to newly adopted children — what an incredible opportunity!

If you have adopted a child within the last year, or know of someone who has, I would be honored to schedule a complimentary session for your/their family (other perks come with this, too!!!).

Adoption is incredibly dear to my heart, as I have had students, great friends, as well as family that were adopted or chose to adopt.  I’ve seen so many lives change in such an amazing way and would love to be a small part of this experience.  I don’t think I can put into words how this opportunity feels — my intent is to capture the emotion, excitement, personality, everything, so that families can remember this exciting first year.

Please send me an email if you’re interested ==   Oh, and I book several weeks to a month in advance and can only schedule a certain number of sessions per month, so get those calendars out.  :)   I’m EXCITED!!!

Please check out (if you’re interested) and have one super day!
