Hats on Kids…

are just too cute for words.   He has a cold, so he doesn’t quite look like himself here.  :)

Little Fella used to have a habit of throwing off anything we put on his head.  Now, he wants to be like his daddy.

Tonight on the way home from my parent’s house, hubs put one of his hats on the little dude and when we got home, he was still wearing it.  I had to laugh out loud because his little head was swimming in this thing.  I don’t think he could even see!  Adorable.

We went out into the desert today for a little mid-day photo shoot (not an ideal time, but we made it work!).  ‘Twas fun.  More super fun images later on in the week!  ~m

:::A Glam Confidence Boost

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

img_1530vintncrkshdefensoldskl10x8web.jpg

I LOVE taking pictures of kids.  It’s great fun.  I love connecting with them and building a trusting photographer/kiddo relationship.  Kids are just incredibly unpredictable and hilarious –I find it so entertaining and rewarding!

Throughout this whole photography journey, I have found that I LOVE shooting adults, too.   It’s amazing to see a woman’s comfort and confidence build throughout the session.  It’s fascinating that one intentional move of a woman’s hand or foot can take an image from being average to dramatic.  How one glance can go from peaceful to sultry in a matter of seconds.   {and I get to capture that!}

Anyone watch America’s Next Top Model???  I love watching the transformation of the contestants — they go from young girls to confident models in a matter of weeks.   Of course, there’s all that drama sandwiched in between, but it really is fun to watch these women change.

I’ve been taking pictures of my sister for several years now.  At first, it was just headshots for dance.  Within the last three months though, we’ve branched out and have done some pretty fun and funky stuff.  Our transformation together has been HUGE!  Even now, it takes a while for the both of us to get comfortable and find that groove, but once we’re there, it’s magical.

The promotion I have going on for maternity/newborn photos is incredibly exciting for me.  There have been lots of applicants (still have time to apply if you’d like!) and it’s going to be a tough decision.   [Here's a little secret...I don't think I'll be able to pick just one...:) ]  Anyway, as I’m looking through these emails from women all over the valley, I’m looking for a match for my style and/or a story that moves me and/or an appreciation for photography.  I’ve been really impressed and so honored that these moms-to-be want to work as a team.  I can’t wait!!!

Anyway, here are a couple more images taken of my sis in the desert before Christmas…didn’t get to them until now.

img_1933defshcbalselclrweb.jpg

^I think this is one of my favorite pics of her.  I love the curve of her body and how her red hair is just glowing in the sunlight.

img_1959defshcboostvwashweb.jpg

^ Her body here is SO different than we’re used to seeing.  The tight jacket and full skirt work so well together.  I like the placement of her hands, making the feel of the image a bit more stiff.  Her focused stare is the best part (IMO) though.

If any of you out there want to rock a photo shoot –pics for you, your husband, etc., let’s set something up!  There’s still time for a Valentine’s present!  :)    It’s fun to work together and come up with some cool and VERY different stuff.   Can’t wait to show you what I have up my sleeve THIS week.  Have a super day!  ~m

We had so much fun at the Phoenix Zoo last Sunday.  We went with my pal K from choir and her two super sweet boys.   Here are some pics, guys!  I really never take pics of animals or landscape, so these were a bit of a stretch for me.  :)

I just love this flamingo picture because I like the profile shot AND I think it’s fun to see the shadow on the ground.

img_5637defshsatcweb.jpg

I was so excited when I started to edit the image below. I loved everything going on with the light and various trees — it’s so dramatic.   Here are K and her two cute boys looking at the rhinos (which makes it EVEN more special because that is one of the boy’s absolute favorite animals).

The patterns on the giraffes really “popped” when I converted the picture to black and white.

Little Peach playing princess near the water…love the innocence captured here (I’m sure she’s singing!).  The kiddos spent most of the day playing here.  :)

Waiting for someone to loan them money to massage their feet.  :)

Little Fella working on a box of raisins.  He’s such a good little guy.

Do YOU have a favorite???  There are some different images today…I think my fav is either the giraffes or the 3 of them looking at the rhinos… Dang, I just looked again and really like the flamingo one a bunch, too.  I’m gonna have to get back to ya.  :)       ~m

High Five [mini version]

There’s something magical about the hands and feet of a little person — I just can’t get enough!!!

I am just starting to experiment with my new macro (close up!) lens.    This is only the beginning…

With the blog promotion going on, I’m REALLY excited to take macro photos of a sleepy newborn…and maybe a prego belly button?  Oh, the possibilities.  :)

The sweet one-year-old pictured here was SUCH a busy little crawler.  She was tearing up the sidewalk and even my keys didn’t keep her still for very long.   I got lucky when she paused for a moment.

In this picture above, I love the texture of the ground with the various nooks, crannies, and shadows & think it adds so much to the image.    I think her hand, all stretched out, is super cute, too (those tiny wrinkles and dimples always get me).

Thanks, C, for letting my borrow your little cutie for a couple minutes.  :)

{UPDATE on BLOG PROMO}  Thank you everyone for your submissions.  I’ve read though them and really appreciate you taking the time to write a little about yourself and send pictures.  I don’t know HOW I’m going to decide at this point because all your emails have been super sweet and interesting.  Pics great, too.  :)

For those of you that did not send pics with your submission, please do.  Your picture, along with your written portion, will help me decide whether our personal styles will mesh.  Some of the pictures taken at the free sessions with me will go on my website, so I really feel like I need a grasp of “you” before I decide.   I’m going for unique!

If you’d still like to send in a submission, just check out the post below this one and follow those directions — you have until next Wednesday night.  Can’t wait to hear from more fabulous moms-to-be.     ~m

The kiddos at the Milliron Pre-K Academy don’t even know they’re learning!  Isn’t that the way it should be?  :)

img_5013yycontcdefweb.jpg

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids interact with each other and their teacher, Amy Milliron, a couple mornings ago.  Amy brought such a positive air to the classroom.  As the children sang, danced, listened to books,  labeled body parts using bean bags, played with shaving cream, and ran around outside, Amy knew when to stand back and watch the learning take place or provide a helpful hand when needed.   This busy classroom was all about engaging little learners and celebrating good choices (and potty visits!).

Here are a some portraits from my morning there.  Don’t worry, there will be a couple other blog posts about this day — you’ll see Amy in action as well as many candid shots of the kids having fun during their scheduled activities.   Aren’t they all sooo cute???

Thanks so much, Amy and the parents, for letting me be a part of such a fun day.   I can’t wait to show you the rest!  :)

If you’ve seen the movie Stand By Me, I’m sure you remember the really gross scene after the pie eating contest.  The total “barf-o-rama.”  Well, that happened here tonight.  Not multiple people, thank goodness.  Just one really sick kiddo.

I was planning on blogging w/pics, of course (I have LOTS to show!), but I need to comfort Peach.  She’s still really freaked out.

I’ll leave you with something that I’ve been meaning to post for a while…

Food Network posted the top 100 recipes of 2007.  I’m in a rut always fixing the same things for dinner, so I thought I’d pass this along if anyone else is in that same rut, too!

Coming up in future blogs…

Super Cute Preschool Photo Shoot,  Kiddo Book Review, Pics from our Zoo Trip (today)
